YEAR 1

I am very proud of the progress the students are making in class. Their writing and spelling have come a long way since the beginning of the year but we still need to work harder with the punctuation skills. The class began looking at Explanation writing, for English this term. Explanation is an important text type and sometimes can be a challenging concept for Year 1 students as they have to explain why or how things work. We will practise as many examples as we can during the term but would appreciate it if you can help your child with extra writing activities at home too.

In Maths, we have been focussing on addition and subtraction strategies.

In Geography, we will be looking at natural, constructed and managed features.

The Elective groups for this term are ‘Sewing’ and ‘Construction’. Students are enjoying the sewing club and have been practising stitches and also sewing buttons on fabric.

Burhaan Syed and Hibba Changizi recited poems during the ANZAC Day celebration at school and did an amazing job. Well done to them for their confidence!!

There are also some snapshots from the swimming week and our Art class.

Reminders:

All homework including the online ‘Reading Eggs’ and ‘Mathletics’ tasks must be completed each week.

Please continue to support your child by reading with them daily and commenting in the yellow Reading Journal.

Send a box of tissues with your child if you haven’t already done so.

Thank you for your continued support with your child’s learning!

I wish everyone a very Happy Ramadan!!
